If your computer did not start from the CD/USB you burned, follow these steps to change the boot order or selected boot device.
1. To begin, start with the power off and press the start button. As the computer begins to boot up, look for the message Press any key to boot from CD or USB. Press any key at that time and the computer will boot from the CD/USB.
2. Second, select the correct boot device on power up. This is performed by pressing the start button to power up and looking for the option to select boot device. Usually when the manufacturer logo displays you will see options on the bottom of your screen to select boot device. Typically HP is f9, Dell is f12 and a few manufacturers are f10. Your specific computer and model may be different so look to see which "f" function key you will need to tap. Once you select the correct function key highlight and select Boot from CD/DVD or Boot from USB. Press enter and the computer will boot from selected device.
3. Third, restart your computer and enter the BIOS. Once again when the manufacture logo displays look on the bottom of your screen and check for the function key to enter the BIOS. On a Dell machine it's usually F2, Toshiba is F1 or ESC, HP is F1 or F2, and IBMs usually require you to press the blue access IBM button then select Enter BIOS.
Now that you are in the BIOS, the tough part is finding the boot order section. Note that there are not a lot of options in a BIOS, so just go through the pages looking for something like Boot, First Boot Device, Boot Order, Boot Management, Boot Sequence, etc. It may also be under Advanced BIOS Features or Advanced Boot Options.
After locating the boot sequence page you will see First, Second, Third, etc…. Boot Device Options. Scroll down by using the arrow keys and change the First Boot device to CD/DVD or USB. This will make your CD/USB the first device the computer looks at while starting up.
